Christian Women’s Job Corps/Christian Men’s Job Corps: Programs provided include:
-
A Personal Mentor. A mentor is someone who has grown through the knowledge and experience she or he has acquired over time and is now willing to share what they have learned with another person. The mentoring relationship enables and empowers participants. Participants meet regularly (usually weekly) with their personal mentors to plan together, talk, pray, do Bible study and celebrate the participant’s successes. Mentors encourage and support.
-
Personal Planning and Goal Setting. Each participant works out a plan with his or her mentor to meet their individual goals for improving their livelihood. This plan determines what training and support would be helpful, and together the participant and mentor identify realistic and achievable action steps to reach the participants goal. The mentor continues to walk alongside the participant until the agreed upon goal(s) is reached.
-
Job Readiness Classes. Starting in April/May of 2011, the Jobs for Life job readiness program will be offered. This is an eight week class, meeting twice a week for two hours each week. Class topic include: Attitude, Respect for Authority, Conflict Resolution. Taking Responsibility, Teamwork, Perseverance, Effective Communication, Integrity, Excellence, Vocational Planning, Job Search Techniques, Building a Resume, Interviewing Skills and Customer Satisfaction.
-
Life Skills Classes. These classes will be offered on an as-needed basis. In many cases, participants will be referred to classes which are offered through other community organizations, and their relationship with their mentor will continue during these classes. Examples of classes are: nutrition, budgeting, parenting, growing vegetables, mending clothes, etc.
All volunteer helpers for this ministry are Christians. Mentors are still needed and training is offered and required. If you have any interest in this program, please call 347-6890 or email cwjcpetoskey@live.com.
